Logistic Preparation

Planning for success!

As you embark on this exciting journey with us, we want to emphasize the importance of collaboration in making your experience truly enriching. At CEDEI, we take pride in organizing all logistics and program visits well in advance, ensuring that you have a thoughtfully planned itinerary.

Here are some helpful tips to consider when traveling overseas:

Currency

Ecuador’s official currency is the US dollar.

Visa and Documentation

Ensure you have the necessary visas, passports, and legal documents for studying abroad.

Passports should  be valid for at least six months before departure.

Booking Flights

  1. Book Early: we encourage you to book flights in advance to secure the best rates, as prices tend to rise closer to the departure date.

  2. Agency: For faculty-led trips, reach out to a travel agency or airline to ask about discounts, as many offer special rates for groups and students.

Travel Arrangements

CEDEI will manage all travel arrangements in Ecuador for both groups and individual students, including airport transportation, accommodation, local flights, field trips, and more.

Health and Safety

Check your home health insurance before traveling. However, the medical services in Cuenca are excellent and offer a variety of healthcare options. If you take medications, be sure to bring an adequate supply and prescription, as you may not find the same medications available in Ecuador.

Financial Planning

Although your program’s fee covers most expenses, it is important to plan for other, additional personal expenses (e.g. souvenirs, meals not included in the program).

Cultural Orientation

The CEDEI staff will provide you with comprehensive information about the host country’s culture, customs, and norms to help facilitate your adjustment. Keeping an open mind and asking questions is the best way to avoid misunderstandings.

Crisis Emergency Plan

At CEDEI, safety is a top priority. Our institution is dedicated to proactive measures to prevent and effectively respond to any dangerous situations. If you would like to receive the full Crisis Emergency Plan document, please don’t hesitate to contact us oip@cedei.org

Effective logistic preparation is crucial for a successful study abroad experience, helping students focus on their studies and cultural immersion rather than logistical challenges.
